Early Life and EducationAmadeu Vives i Roig was born in Collbató, near Montserrat, Spain, in As a child, he contracted polio and was sent to live in an orphanage in Barcelona. It was there that he began studying music under the tutelage of José Ribera.
Rise to Prominence
In , with Ribera's support, Vives founded the "Orfeó Català" choral society, which played a pivotal role in the revival of Catalan music. He went on to study with Felipe Pedrell and later moved to Madrid, where he lived for the rest of his life.
